Tumwater, WA — Employers in Washington state can be prohibited from barring employees’ voluntary use of non-public protecting tools, beneath a not too long ago proposed rule from the Division of Labor & Industries.
Issued March 22, the proposal comes with some stipulations. Voluntary use of PPE by workers and/or contractors should not introduce hazards into the work setting, can’t intervene with an employer’s safety necessities, and should adjust to state requirements for the particular kind of apparatus. Additionally, employers can’t apply for a variance to the rule throughout a public well being emergency.
Washington L&I says any updates on the rulemaking will seem on its website.
