Google backs photo voltaic, offshore wind in newest PPA binge in Europe

November 24 (Renewables Now) – Google LLC has signed a pair of 12-year energy buy agreements (PPAs) within the UK and Spain in an effort to make sure its operations in each nations run on near 90% carbon-free power in 2025.

Germany’s ib vogt mentioned that the tech large contracted energy from its 149-MWp Garnacha photo voltaic PV mission in Zamora province, Spain. The Garnacha plant shall be outfitted with over 270,000 photo voltaic panels mounted on north-south single-axis trackers. Its manufacturing output is estimated at as much as 300 GWh per 12 months.

The photo voltaic farm is predicted to achieve industrial operation by October 2023, ib vogt mentioned.

Within the UK, Ocean Winds, a 50/50 three way partnership between energy producers EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), signed a company PPA with Google for 100 MW from the Moray West offshore wind farm mission.

Moray West is an 882-MW improvement at the moment underneath development off the coast of Scotland. Lithuania’s Ignitis Group owns a small stake in it.

Underneath the PPA phrases, Google shall be delivered over 5 TWh of energy from the wind farm, Ocean Winds mentioned.
